    Groucho Three New Systems!

Recently built three new systems in a span of a month...yep that aint a misprint

One was my main desktop machine. The second was an HTPC for the living room. The last was a windows home server. Alright lets just show the build list, that's all we care about anyways.

    Main System

    • Intel Core i7-920 @ 4.0GHz

      Lite-On DVD Burner
Creative X-Fi Fatality Extreme Gamer Sound Card
      Corsair HX620W PSU (System)
Tagan EasyCon 530W PSU (Dedicated GPU)
      Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

    HTPC
    • AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition @ 3.1GHz
Scythe Big Shuriken SCBSK-1000 120mm HSF
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO ATX Motherboard (AMD 785G - AM3 Socket)
      4GB G.Skill DDR3-1600 RAM (9-9-9-24)
ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU (Onboard)

      EDIMAX EW-7228 Wireless 802.11n Adaptor
      Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

    Home Server
    • AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor @ 3.0GHz, Stock HSF
ECS Black Series A785GM-M uATX Motherboard (AMD 785G - AM3 Socket)
      2GB Crucial DDR3-1333 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU (Onboard)
      Samsung Spinpoint 400GB (Boot)
      2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB (JBOD)
      5 Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB (JBOD)
      OCZ Modstream Pro 500W PSU
Windows Home Server 32-bit with Power Pack 3

Media streams throughout the house via the Home Server. Total Storage size is 5.37TB.

Web surfing on 60" Screen never gets old.

    Gaming on 2560x1600 is sick.

Fun times building all three systems and now poor for a long time

What can I say IA, your main desktop is totally rad, and I see you've got an Intel generation 1 SSD, any problems setting it up with Win7? And we'd like some pics if you got them,

Thanks Zammy, I noticed in your signature you built and i7 Rig too with sweet parts. The SSD is actually the G2 but I cant go back and edit the original post no mo . Can one of the mods do that por favor?

Win 7 runs like a champ on it right now. Just have to avoid the new firmware that featured the TRIM support but causing data loss.

All I can say is you aint felt SSD until you do SSD!!

G2 it is then Patrick, taken care of. I'm waiting for Black Friday to see if I could possibly snag one, there's nothing online yet but I'm hoping the Egg or MWave will have one, they've had some 80 gig ones in the last month for around $220 with a code but I'm always too late getting there, hehe.

I thought Trim in Win 7 was the cure for the data loss problem.

    All nice systems IA.

dang tom, you still rollin with that rig? that's gotta be ancient by now. as long as it works though.

troy, TRIM tells the SSD to explicity wipe out the deleted addresses so the drive doesn't have to do this when it needs to write to the space.

here you go zammy, pics of the desktop build. i have a side fan sucking heat from the Radeon 5870 and exhausting it out the back. the X58 northbridge chip runs hot so i have an Antec spot fan cooling it down by 6C. the CPU is cooled by the Cooler Master V8, which rocks.

in the closeup, you can see the Intel SSD mounted in the lowest 5.25 bay through 3.5 rails. the rail allows 2 2.5 disks to be installed and will be convenient when i get another 80GB SSD to do RAID 0 in the future.

notice how much smaller the uATX boards are. never buying a full size atx board again.

wiring could be cleaned up a little better but toooo lazy

it's lighter then it looks. the base is copper while the fins are aluminum and held securely by a retention bracket on the back. very well designed HSF.
