Upgrade thoughts – 1203 days old

So guys, is the Intel i7-920 the current favorite? I'm not up to speed on this i-whatever series by Intel, and don't know what's what yet. Gotta do some reading up. I'm still running the Q6600.

If I do upgrade, it's gonna be on the cheap. Recycle my current Corsair 1000 watt PS, current drives. Obviously need a new mobo and memory (running DDR2 currently). It sucks to have to gut one system to build another, but that's my only option right now.

Ok, forget the cheap part...wishful thinking.

Well.. You can get somem decent 920's and mobo combo's. I did not opt for that. I went with a very decent ASUS board and a better quality HSF, and triple channel memory. God am I glad I did.

At first I was going to do the gut route like you did, but I changed my mind - too many variables were conflicting - IN the end, I pretty much did it all new, but I am going to switch the cases this coming weekend. the cooler master is better for this I920 and such than the Old Antec I have it in now.
