    happy new tv

    Hi All
Hope I'am in the right forum, here goes, but remember this is all new to me so be gentle.
I have just bought a 42" led tv and I understand from the specs you can stream videos from a pc to it wirelessly or am I wrong.
My pc is running win xp pro, the tv is dlna compatible and I have wmp 11 installed how is it done and what extra's do I need if anything, also could I put a blu ray disc in a blu ray reader in my pc and stream it to the tv again wirelessly.

I suggest you contact your GP and ask for a change of meds cos whatever you're taking now makes you a grumpy fuck.

Ask yourself a basic question: Is the TV equipped with Wi-Fi? Not sure? Then see above post - RTFM

1 - specs - Please give us some specs - tv make, list it's components.... Also, what type of wireless lan hub/router you have...Your PC has to be able to reach it thru the wireless router - regardless of whether your PC talks wirelessly or via a cat5 cable thru the router, and the router wireless to the TV Device.

2 - Did your Blu ray stream to it or are you asking how to link the three?

Hmm, might be talking about WiDi, I dont know too much about it yet, but I think you need some kind of adapter.
For my setup I just connected an HDMI cable, wifi is a bit spotty for full hidef video.

You know what? You may not want to spell the word out. But I will. Read the manual dumb fuck. You gave next to no information about your setup and expect an answer. If enough information is supplied by the person asking the question I'll always do some searching to find an answer. It won't happen this time even if you do supply more information.

You certainly do always get one, you proved that. And the "Bikini Peeker" moniker was put there by Jan a long time ago, not me, and I see no reason to change it.

I don't recall XP-home or Pro having the necessary media center extender capabilities.
Need XP Media Center Edition for that. OR Win-7. (Vista has it, but I don't recommend that POS)

Don't know whatcha got for a TV, so can't go any further.

Personal recommendation: HTPC with enough ass to play blu-ray Connected to your network to access wherever your movies are stored (preferably wired). HDMI to the TV.

    What Fing said.

I have my TV, HTPC & Hi Fi all set up together. Computer video via HDMI to TV, computer audio to Hi-Fi via optical out/optical to coax converter/DAC.

Xbox audio and video to TV via HDMI, TV sound (Xbox and digital terrestial channels) to Hi-Fi.

I play movies stored on HTPC's HDD as avi files and FLAC files also stored on HDD for playback. I usually use the Xbox to watc h a DVD though I could use HTPC.

Guess I'll have to fit a Blue Ray optical drive to HTPC if I want to watch any Blue Ray disks but I don't have any of those yet.

Have a three PC hard wired network so can also 'stream' any contents of each PC to each other, should I want to.

I was also raised right by my ma and pa, didn't ever attend no charm school, but I know how to converse politely and acknowledge good folk who are trying to help me.

Thank you the other replies to my post obviously floppybootstomp (ridiculous name) did not see what MSUredux put at the end of his reply,I did and I quote "dunno" and for your info the tv is DLNA compatible but it states win 7 I have xp so I don't know, don't know why people who cannot answer posts with an informative reply, answer, or is it just to show that they are indeed a dumb CLUCK, I created the post to get answers if I knew what to do or how it works I would not have posted dumb CLUCK, as I said go back to bikini peeking pervert.
Tv is a Toshiba 42sl863b, the router is a wireless ADSL that came from Talk Talk the telephone company, my pc is upstairs and the tv is downstairs the blu ray was just an after thought as it is already in my pc, I do know I am going to need other software to get it to work but what and is it worth it, the tv has a freeview hd tuner built in so do not need anything in that respect. I am going to hang it on the wall so that the power supply and the rf cable will not be seen but I don't want any other cables snaking across the wall to it thats why I was asking about the wireless aspect, thanks PROD if it is as you say I might have to go down the cable route to get good HD video but as I said the pc is upstairs and the tv downstairs so might have to abandon the blu ray idea unless I can get an exceptionally long cable but then losses in the cable through being long might defeat the objective.
Thanks Fingerle win 7 is what is required and as I don't have it and don't want to go to any further expenditure on a new OS asked what is required for win XP and you gave the answer. Thanks also to Bitbender.
The other two get the finger.

Careful there mate. That's my friends you are flipping off. Their answers although not what you were looking for were accurate giving the severe lack of information you gave when you started the thread. (There are a large number of wifi enabled 42" Sets on the market) A lot can be learned if we RTFM. You got the generic answer I gave simply due to me having traveled this road. (PC to PS3)

Transcoding from Windows XP across the wireless IS going to give you some picture quality issues regardless of the software you choose to use. Unless you just don't give a crap about said quality.. You WILL be displeased with the results.
My notebook spends most of it's time playing the part of an HTPC. Over 500 movies spread out over 3.5TB worth of HDDs. All simple copies of the main movies from the DVDs. A choice made simply due to me being an extra picky bastid when it comes to the picture quality at the TV end of things. WMV, MP4, whatever. by the time you get the f'n thing to look as good (Mostly just almost as good) as the original, The file size is the same So I don't waste time converting them. Winblows-7 is smart enough to know how to play DVD folders out of the box. XP-MCE and Vista can do it after a simple registry tweak.

Nah! If you don't let yourself get sucked in to the "Best-Buy" hype about how you gotta have a $90 3ft cable.

Remember. Signal is digital. That said. I have a 15foot cable from Nippon Labs, paid $20 for it a couple years ago. Works like a champ.
Poking about I find Newegg still sells the same cable. Pried now at $10. And also has a few even longer inexpensively priced offerings.

Yea..I hear ya I was referring to one 30' or longer to make the run thru walls and down to an outlet or something so it doesn't show.

well flopps if you can read which you obviously cannot i was reffering to MSUredux, take that attitude and you sir are a total WANKER ALONG WITH YOUR PERVERT FRIEND MSUredux who I am glad he will not reply to any more of my posts, Praise be, so go and hang some parking notices on some cars.
Fingerle all I got from MSUredux in reply to my post was and I quote " Maybe read the manual" "dunno" the dunno bit is NOT show in the reply on bitbenders but is in the email so anyone reading it would assume that this is a total idiot his next replies bare that out if he does not want people to assume he is that way inclined then I suggest he replies to posts with a feasible answer. I give as good as I get. So there is no signal loss in a HDMI cable even if 30 ft long or longer.
Bitbender the cable would have to be somewhere in the region of 30ft or longer thats if I could manage to route it successfully, I have just found out that to enable wireless connection an additional Dual Band Wlan adapter is required that fits into the back of the tv, I have just found a cable that is 20M long but is the same price as the dongle, just about.

Fing, digital doesn't mean it's immune to interference. If anything there's a hard limit to how much a given cable can transfer before the signal turns to crud. It's that same as trying to jam a gigabit signal down a length of cat5. Try and push too high a data rate down a HDMI cable that's not designed for it (they're not all the same) and you start getting errors. That doesn't mean everybody NEEDS a top end cable, but you do get what you pay for. A 100Hz signal jammed down a cable designed for 24Hz, especially a long one, will give you a shitty picture. If your tv/player combination doesn't need the 18GB/s cables then of course it's a waste of money buying them, on the other hand if you DO have a full HD 3D TV and 3D Blueray combination (waste of money imho but anyway) then you'll want the highest bandwidth cable you can buy. It's all about matching your needs.
Power is something that should be given to those who need it to serve and withheld from those who seek it to rule.

rcpilot, you don't crunch for the team, you don't contribute to the community here and you want to come in and diss people. Repeatedly. I suggest you have a good hard think about your ability to access this forum and not take it for granted. The people you are abusing are generally good natured and forgiving folk. Don't push it.

Blu-Ray video. 43 to 58mb/s, DVD 4 to 6mb/s depending on which disk you are looking at.
    256 or 480kb/s audio.

    HDMI isn't that tasking.
It is quite possible to easily send these signals up to 50ft using 24awg conductors.
Signal strength isn't so high as to cause induction issues between the conductors.

If no one else is using it, I can pull Blu-Ray off my network via Wireless-N. Though honestly. I'm screwed if someone so much as tries to use the wireless to pull up even the simplest webpage. ROFL No issues what soever when blasting across the gigabit ethernet.

I guess to put it bluntly, I throw more data down my Cat-5 on occasion than my HDMI cable will ever see while doing it's single task HD movie work.

Some of the newer HDMI implementations do a lot more than just pass pretty pictures. A lot of it is DRM shit, the real problem there being that crap gets priority over the image and audio so if there's any competition the image suffers. Some also use the HDMI for network access (via a network enable media player) and that stacks on top of the image signal as well.
Wifey paid big money for a couple of cables when she picked out our new tv. The image quality is amazing ... but it's also the last time I'm letting her buy a big ticket item on her own.

I can read, I can remember reading Treasure Island when I was but six years old actually. Total wanker? Nah, just a part time wanker probably, but we all love to wank don't we? Show me a man who says he doesn't wank and I'll show you a liar. And if you think my esteemed forum friend is a pervert for having the monicker 'bikini peeker' then you are one truly fucked up individual, you poor, sad old sod. And I don't hang parking notices on cars, I make them explode, much more fun.

Gonna get nit-picky here but the word you've used in that context should be 'bear' and not 'bare'. My goodness, does that make you a pervert as well? Bare naked ladies, bikinis a go go, stockings, garters and bare bottoms. Blimey.

rcpilot, shove your fucking tongue up my arse until you choke on it you cunt.

Umm. .IS this a UK "greeting" sorta thing?

One point I;d like to make is that these newer TV's are meant to stream from providers DVDR boxes that play in multiple rooms and crap... Also some allow internet access as well so fools can post on "Facial Book" and the like.. I ran a "MOTR" quality cable because my deployment was didn't require more.

About the only thing faster that CAT5 is light fiber and we are not at that level yet in domestic applications..

I bought this 30' HDMI w/ethernet when it was on sale for $14 + shipping. I ran it from the computer, down through the floor, across the basement, back up through the floor, up the wall to tv. I also ran a USB cable so I could attach an infrared receiver beside the tv and control my HTPC with a remote.
Works great, but its pretty thick and stiff. (cue the pervert comments from the guy who wants his salad tossed)

My new tv makes mention here and there of Internet TV and such but after digging around it seems I need an extra doo-dat to make it work. That's neither here nor there to me since I only looked into it out of curiosity. There's more than enough mindless crap available as it is without adding a whole new source.

Well thanks to the guys who gave very constructive advice as regards to my new tv and connection to it you are a credit to Bitbenders.
To the others I say ROTATE ON MY MIDDLE DIGIT one has heeded his own threat and not intervened again, but with hind sight I say this, if they turned his brains into dynamite, stuck a fuse in his ear and lit it the resulting explosion would not have enough force to blow his cap off.
The other one well he's a traffic warden isn't he, what more can I say than if they turned his brains into a highly combustable material and lit it the resulting fire would not have the ferocity to singe whatever hair he has, and while your'e on the subject of nit-picking I quote " I was raised right, didn't ever attend no charm school" obviously did not because they would have taught you English Grammar, that is a double negative meaning you did, you should heed your own advice with your tongue up MSUredux and make a pair of perverts together.
I grow tired of this bye

A 2 second google search of that model reveals it's own web page: http://eu.consumer.toshiba.eu/en/pro...etailDownloads

At the bottom is the online manual pdf. In there are comprehensive instructions for laptop / PC connection and a host of other things, and it tells you what's supplied with that particular model, and what's not. Look under "Controls and Features" section and read the subsections (like the "Using the Media Player" section) after you've read the opening "Connecting your TV" section.

It really is all there, and quite well explained pictorially as it goes.

You had the opportunity to just let it go. Now you can go change your tampax, have a block of Cadbury's and learn to behave.

I was finally unable to bite my tongue anymore and was going to tell pilot boy to please go and fuck himself as he was talking about some people I think very highly of. Then I saw his status and now he's just a sleeping dog.

I saw this thread yesterday, and ignored it because the question was idiotic. I only clicked on it again today, because I saw so many replies and came to see what was going on.

Good of you guys to even waste your time. (I can't even be bothered to ask for more information when people ask questions like that. If someone is that stupid to not even say what TV they bought, I don't have time for them)

Aw, sad to see this. I found this thread quite entertaining. I wonder how long it could have gone on?

I only gave him a week. If he wants to come back for round two the community is welcome to vote on making it open season on his ass.
