RIAA chief: ISPs to start policing copyright by July 1

"Last July, Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon, Time Warner Cable and other bandwidth providers announced that they had agreed to adopt policies designed to discourage customers from illegally downloading music, movies and software. Since then, the ISPs have been very quiet about their antipiracy measures.

But during a panel discussion before a gathering of U.S. publishers here today, Cary Sherman, CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America, said most of the participating ISPs are on track to begin implementing the program by July 1."

Oh no, I need my youtube finds. Why do they need to withhold things from the people without good cause? I guess bitchin' about it won't amount to a hill of beans.

It never ends. I wonder what they'll actually define as downloading copyrighted material, just watching a youtube vid with an embedded music clip? What about when DRM prevents us from playing a game we paid for, and forces us to become "pirates"? Or merely using a p2p service to legitimately download something? This might not be as bad as SOPA, but it still looks like a huge wet blanket to me. And there will be lots of wrong accusations.

The RIAA et al are the real pirates. All the major ISPs had to do was stick together and tell the RIAA to go fuck themselves but no, there wasn't a spine amongst them.
Power is something that should be given to those who need it to serve and withheld from those who seek it to rule.

Quite so good sir, quite so.

It's not as if the performing artists themselves miss out on much just the greedy fatass record company ceo's.

I just downloaded the entire grateful Dead catalogue in 320 mp3 very naughtily because I wanted to check them out. When I was in my early twenties I didn't like the Grateful Dead but as you get older tastes change so I thought I'd have a reassesment.

Have only listened to a few albums so far but they sound better now than they did when I was 21.

What am I trying to prove? Well, nothing really, lol
