SATA Cable problem
Well there I was thinking I was going to have to RMA my new WD hard drive. Extra slow transfer rates 2-3mb/s and Winblows would up and loose the thing from time to time.
Turns out I had a bum SATA cable. VERY strange. I've never seen a cable just up and go to shit before.
Anyone else seen this?

Not yet, no. I have seen poor quality SATA connectors come loose though.
IDE ribbons were easier to break (from abuse) than SATA cables.
It's almost never the cable!

LoL.. That was the first thing I checked. Still plugged in correctly? YUP!
Was working like a champ up till yesterday.
HA ribbon cables. uncaged floppy drive connectors and a thin walled cable end = pluggin that shit in one pin off.

No cables, but I had a bad SATA motherboard port. I taped it over so I'd remember which one was bad. I'd suggest not leaving that cable laying around with your other spare cables or you might attempt to use it again in the future

Not had a bad SATA yet but suffered a few PATA cables that went belly up in the past.

I've had a few bad sata cables usually the ones that are thrown in with the budget motherboard packages. Quick change over and all's well again. I still find sata connection is lousy after all these years too.

I agree, they are somewhat fragile but I haven't had one go bad yet.
