My 295 has been running pretty hot through most of the summer, idling around 54 and 56 on the two chips, as we don't keep the house real cold I didn't think too much of the situation. I was palying Just Cause a couple of days ago and noticed that the temps were really high even with the fan running around 90% so I figured it was time for a thorough cleaning. I wasn't intelligent enough to take any pics but after taking the rubber shroud off the card I could get to some areas that a blast of canned air couldn't really get at before. I took the time to use some alcohol on a cotton swap and clean all the little fins on the rotary fan, that was a lot of fun, LOL.
Since I had the card out I also cleaned the rest of the rig and fans also, the result was a 6 C drop in idle temps to around 47 -49 and much more reasonable high temps. I think the biggest thing was taking the shroud off the card and being able to blow the heatsink out on my dual-card version of the 295. I think I will do this about every 6 months now, my case sits on the floor and I'm sure it sucks up more dust than if it were higher.
