    happy Muck's web site

Hi Mucks, I was looking at you profile to see when your birthday was when I saw that you had your homepage listed, www.pcreview.co.uk that's a nice looking site, got an XP'ish look about it.

When are your throwing the site warming party?

Edited by Bb to correct malformed url, sorry..

    Smile Hello Tech

Thanks, if you run XP it kind of blends in nicely. The site will go live sometime soon, hopefully before the end of October.

We will be having a Competition for the grand re-opening and ALL are welcome.

    We have for the competition
    3 Sticks of 128/133 cas 2 Ram
    an AMD AXIA 1gig CPU
and an Abit KT7a Raid Motherboard

Hope this lot will pop over there from time to time.

Wow...great design! Very XPish I must say. Good luck with PC Review once again! I remember way back when I was suppose to drop by and say hello but the DB crash put it out of comission. Good to see it back on its feet

    beamin

Thanks for all the support everyone.

I hasten to add that my part in the new design was suggestive and that "Ian" (ceo) and "Pete" are the ones the praise should really be directed to.

Bits... the new re-design does look "sweet" and is a play on XP, hopefully this will draw a good audience. I will be "splitting" my time between the two sites. As a British site it will not conflict with my duties here and as this has been my home for some time now I would NOT be leaving. (haha sorry)

Flops, and I hope James, will be roped into the forum, again ... that is of cause if they are willing.

Hope to see you ALL over there for the grand re-opening. I will keep you all informed as the time nears.

    Thanks again for the support.

I should hope not. If you even attempt to leave Mucks, I will personally take holiday in Wales, and visit you at your local pub!! (for a non-violent embibement, of course!)

I'm just jealous that I haven't yet put something like that together!!!

    Welcome, Ian!

Really good job with the Site, Ian...Show's this ole Geek how much I DONT know yet...

Good luck with the database, they can be a cast iron biatch to keep straight. We had some issues when we first started here, but those holes got plugged pretty quick, and we've seemed to escape the madness since then!

Now, what do You charge by the hour?? Eveything I seem to code up looks like a mainframe screen!!

    Yep!!

Daily Backups? Wow, that is intensive...I've been looking at a board mod that does a rolling backup, an interesting piece of work.

I'm using dreamweaver, It's just I've got that 'mainframers curse' thing...Been designing pages for the mains so long, I forget how to do anything thats not 'missionary' style!

I was kidding about the hourly rate, it takes ALOT of time to admin and run a site!! You prob have about as much free time as I do!!

Cheers!! have fun, and we are delighted to have you visit, and hang 'wit us!!

We have to disable the Usenet post backups so it won't(backup process) time out, but other than that MySQL is a good performer for us!

Is your forum Component VBB ??

There are numerous add-ons for mysql that provide some of these fuctions, but I, like you, do manual ones all the time!

I especially like AdMIN tool available for Mysql! Makes backups a snap!

    Look of sites

Hey Bits, to bring some things into perspective.

We all love this site, we wouldn't all keep coming back if we didn't - a greater set of comrades you wouldn't be able to find.

We don't come here because of fancy front pages, or the look of the site. This is the first BB you have put together, and while you have had help and suggestions from the staff, and help in mod'ding it, it's you that has been putting in all the longs hours in running, maintaining and designing the site - all on top of holding down a job which seems to take an already huge amount of your time. I'm suprised Bitbindette hasn't been moaning

As you know, there are two ways of doing a site. The first, which is the quickest, is getting it up quickly so that people can use it, they can be part of the decinsion making in how it looks and build up from there.
The second way, which is generally longer, is to get the design of the site pretty much all sorted before going live, so that people just come along and use. The peeps don't have much say in the look of the site as it's already done. There isn't a right or wrong way, just different ways of doing it.

You have done it the first way, and by the very nature of it, it's never going to look as good as one that has been shut during during creation. Yours gets better over time-and, and this is very big plus point, during that time we can all use it.

You have done this all on your tod (Brit slang for "all by yourself"). This is also your first bite at this Forum game - don't forget, or understimate what you have achieved here.

Mucks and Ian have had a bite of running a forum before, and they would have gained from it - every body does second time around. There are also 3 of them, that makes a huge difference.

Yes, I like their new front page, but don't be jealous, of their front page/site - use it as a spur to do yours, I know yours willl be pretty damn fab when it's done - but never forget, that we are not here because of a fancy looking site. It's the people and the contents, and coming here and talking to all you special people just makes my day complete

    Thanks, All .....

Yes, I understand all your comments, and I do appreciate you all!

Yep, it is my first go round, and yep, it takes some serious time! But me Bitbendette only moans if I don't do 'certain' things for her, and I always take care of her business first!!

I'm just brutally honest about things, so I was simply being truthful earlier today, when I said I was jealous!!, It was my EGO that was propelling me, not my intellect. Just a sign to you guys that I am, after all of it, just a human being! Also, still down with the 'bug' thats going around here, and I was a bit outside me med's earlier today!

It really doesn't make me feel inferior in any way, just old....I used ta have energy to run 24X7, now, just 24 mins, 7 seconds..And thats BEFORE I start!

Thanks again for your kind comments about coming to BBF. I'll keep the light on for all YA!! Yea, the front end is moving along. You can see a sample of it here I still have alot of work and rearrangement to do, but it's starting to shape up.....

I love the idea of a partnership across the pond!

    Smile Welcome,wildone

every time I look at UD site I wondered what has become of You.
Jackass that I am I never thought to question Muck's about Your E-mail.

Next time the old man checks UD,He will be a pain in the ass ,with questions about OC'ing (just hates to be behind anyone) or He'll
go out and spend 1000 Pounds on the latest and greatest system.Great to hear from You again,My friend.Have a good time here, and share Your thoughts, with Us.

Now Bits .I being totally technically minded,Love Your front page layout.Through My years,I have designed thousands of parts and systems. If I ever seen a cleaner,or more precise layout for a front page,I would be able to quote Ya the authors name and date of publication.

    I love it,We are not worthy(James on his knees,oh,Salam)
    beautiful
Can't wait! Thank You very much
Now on a personal point(I'll PM Ya)

    WildOne

Glad you could make it over Mike, pleased to see you.

... as for OC'ing you still got no chance, I will just go and get me a faster CPU.

I wonder what Santa is going to get me?

Thanks for the warm welcome all

HEHE ,maybe santa will bring you an 1800+ xp processor

I hope he brings me one ,those are a little harder to overclock though cause of the laser cut trenches but it can be done, the cool thing about overcloking is that for six months nearly I had a faster processor then you could buy, thats what I like about it.
