IA has spent a lot of time on his UD document, a splendid document it is too, but it's not easy to find. I found the link to it,
http://www.bitbenderforums.com/teamp/panty.html buried in a another thread, http://www.bitbenderforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1363.
A suggestion would be a UD FAQ, bucause if you are encouraging peol eto join this worthy cause, I reckon you are going to get a lot of the same questions asked all the time.
A couple of questions I have:-
In Device Information in UD, under Overall Performance it only rates my Netgear 311 100mb/nic as 23? How come? Are Intel biased towards their own nics - have I answered my own question!?
Are the points that are gained from doing each unit based on the size of the unit done, or are they a mix of the size of the unit completed and the permonce rating of your PC?
Cheers.
Edited a few minutes later:-
Doh! - he said slapping his forehead - just been to the UD site and read the FAQ there to get some of his answers.
I think it would still be good if we could take some of the good stuff from their FAQ and re-hash into a "quick FAQ" - yes - no?

What's wrong with UD's scoring system? Do I really need an Intel Itanium system w/ 1GHz RDRAM, and Intel NIC to match the reference scale? However, they failed to mention what brand of HD the user should use, so here's to Intel, you bunch of little league sports parents.

The link to the Article could also be found in the Announcements heading above in every forum. We use that to broadcast news or information to the forum members globally. You think I should make the article a sticky in the Team PC forum?
Regarding you questions, the network rating is a hot topic discussed over at UD's forums. As you have noticed, the rating indeed is biased towards Intel NICs and Intel anything really :p The primary factor in the network score though is your connection quality with the NIC brand coming in second. For example, I am on Cable Broadband and originally had a Linksys NIC which gave me scores ranging from 20-60ish. I switched to an Intel Pro 100/S adaptor and now I get scores ranging from 30-100ish. How lame huh? :O
Here is the forum thread discussing it...

As for the points generation, it is mainly based on the duration it takes to finish a protein based on your rig. If you have a fast rig, you will finish more results with less points while slower rigs have less results with more points. Ideally, it would all even out in the end, but I don't see that equality. For me, the RESULTS are what matters because it is a true indication of how many proteins you have returend to the Unversity of Oxford.
As for the FAQ rehash, i was hoping the Team PC article would lead newbies to the right areas that I linked to in there, but a rehash is a good idea! What do you members think? I could whip something up real fast (although the UD FAQ area is pretty well organized)!

Hi IA - The link isn't in all the Annoucements at the the top of all forums - only this one. For example if you got to Village Idiot's forum, you link to your document is missing from the announcements section. It's all so the 3rd announcement down so you gotta scroll to see it. It's a good important document - I believe you should give it more prominence

I was thinking not so much a thread, which the "Sticky" looks like to me, but more of a page, like you get when you press the BB FAQ button at the top of each page.

Also, it's stuff which isn't in the UD FAQ, like IA's quote above, which I think would be good in a FAQ of our own. It's shouldn't be a huge document, it wouldn't then be easy to navigate.
At the moment the information is scattered around, 4 or 5 links leading to different places, which you then have to go and sort thru, why not have it all ready sorted and filtered in one easy to digest area? I'm gonna go and partly answer my own question here - becuase it would take bloody day's to do it? I would be willing to help out on setting up a FAQ if it went ahead.

Problem is, that it's politically correct, what with Intel as a sponsor - I want FAQ's , "warts n'all", not one that may leave stuff out because the sponsor may not like it.
