I am having trouble joining ud. I downloaded, installed, then go to log in and I cannot seem to get a response to my login.

Bart, there has been some trouble with the UD servers, you may have to try later.

Yep, you in. Here's a link to the members homepage:

When you've finished that protein if you're on dial up you'll need to connect to web and you'll get a new one back. If you're always on line, it will connect/download automatically.

Bear in mind some proteins take just a coupla hours to process, others can take anything from 2 to 20 hours, depending on your computer setup.

Anyways, welcome! Take a look at the team members page and join in the fun. The best thing is, we and the rest of the world members who are taking part in this thing may actually find a cure for this poxy disease. That's the best incentive :)

How do I get my dial-up modem to disengage from ud and log off when i am not home after it has automatically dialed in? I do not want to be on line all day when I am not home.

Also: What forum do I post this type of stuff on so i do not keep swaying from the original topic?

Bart, I'm not sure about that one, I've always done it manually. If you go to the Forum main page, look under the part entitled 'Software Palace' you'll see a sub-section called 'Distributed Computing Projects'.

There's a lot of helpful info there, including details of a UD Monitor which will process several proteins one after the other so you don't have to dial up so often.

IA's the guy to speak to on this one, but I believe it's his birthday today so he probably won't be around much.

Anyways, take a look at the section I've detailed above, I'm sure there are many questions you'll have answered there.

As for my cooling. I'm using a Silverado. Great cooler for a Duron or Athlon's under 1 gig but it just don't cut the mustard with my 1.2 @ 1.32.

I used an Alaska Silver Mountain for a while, lowered my full load temps to a max of 47C. But it was very noisy :(

I have reseated my cooler, and it did actually make a 2C difference. I'm actually quite content with things the way they are (except of course I'd like a few more Mhz :)) but thanks for all the interest and advice offered to both of you :D

Oh, and Dramen, yes, I will try lowering CPU volts a tad. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks:tup:
